Wrought Iron Design ~ Mosaic

Couture Fashion Design

About the Artist~

Once upon a time I began my career painting on the clothing I wore to get exposure, then I landed on a design concept that I found a sponsor to produce an market through the Dallas Apparel Mart. The concept was 100% cotton interlock knit with a Native American inspiration hand painted fringe. These garments were featured in the Las Vegas National Pro Rodeo Women's League Fashion Show during the National Finals Rodeo, and a dozen Miss Rodeo America contestants wore my garments in their competition. Without financing it was not possible to continue the line so it is in hiatus.

As a child I was offered crayons and paint by number, and once we moved to Mexico at the age of 9, my brother and I were tutored by correspondence, and if we finished our lesson for the day we would get a time to do art. We copied classical old masters images from match boxes and gained valuable art experience. I learned that you could paint outside the lines, and it was even better.

I decided on a degree plan for college in Fine Arts, as I am gifted and had an excellent academic foundation, so without a high school art class or portfolio, I began to do exceptional drawings in charcoal and pencil from live models, so much so that other students sat up their easels behind me to copy my view of the pose as well as my tools to make good grades. I was always original.

In my work since entering "The Real World" I have always used my art abilities. I have done commissions for private individuals, murals, painted couture clothing, as well as oil and acrylic on canvas. I have done costume design and fabrication for four community theatre productions in Austin, Texas, and loved the camaraderie and teamwork involved in the artistic endeavor.

After a post-graduate class in watercolor at Texas State University I began to do watercolors and portraits.

I'm starting a new collection of work in various mediums, of an expressive nature that is very satisfying, as well as a continued series of figurative pieces that have a very personal meaning to me as a woman artist.

A new series called: "Earth Scenes", using oil pastel crayon Aquarelle sticks on 12" X 18" watercolor paper is meant to express my strong feelings about climate change. These works will be available as prints in the near future.

SALVADOR DALI DEDICATED

A print "St. John of the Cross" to Fina Mae Ross, after seeing a graphite pencil portrait (1974) of Ramon del Corral, Spanish television documentary producer involved with Dali's TV interviews he video taped. Del Corral showed Dali the pencil portrait, 16"X20" on paper, and Dali was moved to dedicate one of his prints so Ramon could send it to Fina Ross in gratitude for the great portrait. Sorry that image has been lost to history because Ramon has passed away.

The Dali` was damaged in a flood in 1981 in Austin, Texas on Shoal Creek Blvd. The framed piece is in the artist's private collection.
